MicroDiscrete Transparent Long UV Fluorescent Coatings

µDiscrete Transparent Coatings are available in water-based varnish, in nitrocellulose lacquer, or in clear adhesive matrices. The coatings contain one or more of Spectra's µDiscrete fluorescent Pigments having a customer specified particle size range. The coatings can be machine read for color match and for particle count per unit area. Particle count is a function of pigment concentration (customer specifies) in the coating and of the applied thickness of the coating on the finished packaging. Recommended film thickness (dry basis) is equal to maximum particle diameter, up to 0.05 mm.

µDiscrete Pigments exhibit excellent chemical resistance against organic solvents, bleach, caustics, acids, and moisture. µDiscrete Coating body color under ambient light is transparent to translucent, depending on the pigment concentration.

Available µDiscrete Long UV fluorescent colors are Blue-Violet, Blue, Blue-Green, Green, Yellow-Green, Yellow, Orange, and Red. Most µDiscrete colors exhibit the broadband emission characteristic shown in the example below:

MicroDiscrete Binary UV Fluorescent Coatings

Spectra's µDiscrete Binary Coatings are available in a water base varnish overcoat matrix. Such coating may contain one or more colors of µDiscrete Pigment (having particle size of 20 to 50 mm) embedded in a solid background field of finely milled SpectraFluor pigment of another color. When illuminated by a longwave UV light source, the naked eye perceives the combined color of particles and background field, such as orange in the example spectrum below. Under microscopic examination, the presence of discrete yellow particles on a red background field is revealed.

The coatings can be machine read for background color, particle color(s), and for particle count per unit area. Particle count is a function of µDiscrete pigment concentration (customer specifies) in the coating and the applied thickness of the coating on the finished packaging. Recommended film thickness (dry basis) is up to 0.03 mm.

Standard µDiscrete Binary Coatings are available as Blue, Green, Yellow, or Red particles on complimentary background field colors. Other µDiscrete particle colors such as Blue-Green, Yellow-Green, and Blue-Violet can also be provided.
